Janet of All Trades

With the Summer almost over it's time to look back enjoy all the photos and mementos of the season. One of my favorite ways to do this is to create something that reminds me of places that  I have visited.   How I may not have visited all these places this summer but they are some of my favorites.  Made from a Dominoe, a bit of phone wire,old map pages,pendant bail and Mod Podge Dimensional magic and you have a souvenir from your trip or favorite city.  So easy and would be a great going away gift or Christmas gift.  Each one is Unique.  Your Favorite city.. or your hometown... Or a reminder of a Favorite trip.. Enjoy!

I can't say love insects, but I certainly don't hate them either. They spread pollen, eat other harmful insects that destroy gardens and can bite you too. They're interesting and strange.  So when I was recently given a few books on Entomology and insect identification from my SIL Margie, this recycler knew just how to honor these strange and sometimes beautiful creatures. The images are odd and scary. But they were the perfect size for my recycling idea so I started cutting,glueing and using a little  Dimensional Magic and I created..  A few Insect Pendants! Just a few interesting bugs to hang around your neck. Maybe they will keep others away? Or maybe they will look good on Halloween! Enjoy

I search my house for a clipboard this weekend. I know I have one somewhere or I might have given in away, so I made a trip to the Dollar Store since I had a makeover idea. I pulled together some of supplies from my craft stash, including an old Road Atlas, Mod Podge and adhesive backed felt. My Clipboard looked awfully sad and cheap and need of a makeover. I started by finding a map page that was large enough to cover my clipboard and it just happened to be Minnesota. Next I laid it out over my board and folded where the clip started. Next I marked it with a pencil on both sides so I knew where to cut. Drawing a line right to the edge. Next I cut on the line to the fold and made sure it fit sung. Then I cut along the fold and cut the top piece so it fit and lined up behind the clip. Next I covered the entire board with Mod Podge. And applied the paper,making sure to get out all the wrinkles. I love Modern Art and I love recycling so it seems perfectly natural that I should want to create something with a little influence of each. I decided the best way to combine them both would be to create a few pendants. I started with some Vintage Dominoes,bright colored paper, large jump rings and some pendant bails. I cut the paper to size and affixed and sealed with Mod Podge. Then I used my jump rings to create designs and then cover it all with Dimensional Magic. Super easy and my pendants were complete. Geometric and purple  Stripes and Green Pink and Lime Green  So easy and uses leftover scraps and beads. Just a little Modern Art for your neck! Enjoy!

Not to long ago I picked up this standard black lunch box at an Estate sale for $5.00. I loved it for it's worn and well used look and thought it would make a great purse.  The inside was pretty worn too and thought just a coat of paint would help it. I painted the inside this lovely shade of yellow given to me by my neighbor. Perfect I thought just the right color to brighten it up. But I was sadly mistaken and it turned out not so lovely. It looked like a banana had exploded in my lunch box. So it sat in my craft fail closet for about 2 months, until I decided it need yet another face lift but this time with fabric.. And a little Mod Podge and it started to look a little better. Carefully I cut and glued the pieces so this time it would not be a Craft Fail. While wandering around West Elm, I came across some Burlap covered books being used on a display. I thought they were interesting and knew I needed to make them. So I collected my materials. A few old books,burlap and Mod Podge. Now this is an easy project with great results. First I cut a piece of burlap just larger than the book. Then I completely covered one side of the book with Mod Podge. The carefully wrapped the burlap around the book.It gets a little messy but the results are wonderful. I made a few with a geometric fabric as well and really like they way they turned out. I probably make more since they so easy and make a great impact on decorating! Enjoy!
