Halloween Pumpkin Poofs

I have always loved Japanese Lanterns and have grown them in my garden for years. A friend once told me not to grow them since they would take over my garden. Well 8 years later and they are completely gone and don't have any to decorate with. So I had to improvise this year and make my own. First I started with a roll of crepe paper which is super inexpensive at $.79 at Party City.
I then cut it into strips of 18" long and then fed each piece thru my sewing machine with a large stitch setting.
Gathering it as is went thru and feeding each strip one after the other. Leaving just a loose little thread in between each piece. I ended up with a piece that looked like this.
Next I gently pulled the thread from both ends and pushed the paper along the thread. Then I tied both ends of the thread together and pulled as tight as I could without ripping the paper. I was left with this orange poof.
Last step was to use them in my home. I have this vase of reeds and stems that I thought would work perfect.
A bit bland for Halloween until I attach my Halloween pumpkin poofs.
Very easy and it cost me less then $.79! Just a little bit of orange for the holiday. I think that it looks like a Truffla tree from Dr Suess and is the perfect decoration for Halloween! Enjoy!

    Great idea for adding lots of cheap color for the season. I bet there are tons of great things we could make for cheap with paper streamers. You've got me thinking!

    I love the poofy pumpkins! :) This tree caught my attention at Seven Thirty Three's party because it looked like my candy corn tree! :)

I like to watch tutorials on my Ipad and although I have a cover that converts to a stand, it isn't always the best solution for viewing. T-shirt Upcycle to Cardigan

I have had this large long sleeved t-shirt for about a year. I paid $2.99 for it at the Salvation Army and appeared to be new. I had thought about embellishing it with a flower or two but could not come up with a original or cute idea so I decided to make a cardigan out of it. So lets get started and upcycle another piece of clothing! First I laid the shirt out and measured from under arm to under arm to find the exact center. Once I found the center, I cut right up the middle. This step always makes me nervous ever since I was a child and tried to cut a collar on a coat to make it narrower. It was a disaster but I try not to think about it that much and just cut. Once it was cut, I decided to use the hem from another t-shirt that I had cut up for another project.  I cut two pieces of the hem of the t- shirt long enough to cover the edge of the cardigan and wrap around the top and bottom edge. Scrap Fabric Pumpkin Art

It feels like Fall is officially here and I have been thinking about a few Fall projects lately. I talked about last week the Ghost globes and they are still in the planning phase and hope to have them finished very soon. While in the process of figuring out the design for the globes, my mind went astray and found another project for me to work on. I have lot of scrap fabric and I am always trying to use every last bit of it and so I created another project..Scrap Fabric Pumpkin Art. First I started with an image of a pumpkin. Just a nice black and white image that I download from the web. Then I used my favorite technique and cut the image it to pattern pieces. Now I numbered them so I knew what order then went in since when I first cut them out I got them a little mixed up. Next I traced and cut the pieces from my fabric. Pretty easy, just trace and cut. Then I laid out my pieces to make sure they looked like a pumpkin. Looking at this now, I could have done two things different....
